Living with chronic pain can feel exhausting, frustrating, and isolating. You may have tried countless treatments, only to find temporary relief, or none at all. Pain Reprocessing Therapy is based on neuroscience and pain psychology, helping you to rewire the way your brain interprets pain signals. Studies show that over 70% of people who use PRT experience significant pain relief.

Using Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) combined with other evidence-based approaches such as EMDR, I help clients retrain their nervous system to break free from persistent pain.

Whether your physical pain stems from past injuries, stress, or unresolved trauma, healing is possible.

By working together, we can help your brain and body find a new, pain-free path forward.

As a therapist trained in PRT Therapy in Santa Rosa, CA, I work with adults throughout Sonoma County and online across California who are ready to approach chronic pain in a new way - one that validates your experience, acknowledges your resilience, and empowers you with tools for change.

Healing happens in relationship. I believe that feeling safe, seen, and supported is essential when working with pain, especially pain that’s been dismissed or misunderstood. In our work together, I’ll meet you with curiosity and compassion, and we’ll move at a pace that feels right for you.

What a Session Looks Like

PRT is integrated into therapy sessions in a way that feels natural and supportive. In our work together, we’ll explore your pain story, your beliefs about your body, and your emotional landscape. We’ll practice somatic tracking, guided imagery, and body-based tools that help rewire your relationship with pain.

This process is never forced. You are always in charge, and we go at a pace that feels safe for you. My role is to provide structure, encouragement, and insight as you begin to shift long-standing patterns in your brain and body.

Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) is based on the idea that the brain can generate and perpetuate pain even after an injury has healed or when no clear physical cause can be found. This type of pain - often referred to as “neuroplastic” or “centralized” pain - is very real, but it’s not necessarily a sign of tissue damage. Instead, it reflects a nervous system that is stuck in a cycle of protection.

PRT uses a combination of techniques to help your brain rewire these pain pathways. That means we’re not just managing symptoms - we’re working at the root to actually change how your body and brain respond.

How Does PRT Work?

01

Pain Education

We start by helping you understand how pain works - what it is, why it can persist, and how the brain and body interact. Learning that pain can be generated by the nervous system (and not just damaged tissues) can shift your entire relationship with it.

02

Somatic Tracking

Somatic tracking is a key PRT technique that helps you observe your pain with curiosity instead of fear. It’s not about ignoring pain, but about learning to see it as a safe signal rather than a threat. This mindful attention allows the nervous system to gradually unlearn its hypersensitive response.

03

Emotional Processing

Chronic pain is often linked with unprocessed emotions such as grief, anger, fear, or shame. In PRT, we gently explore what feelings might be contributing to the pain loop. This doesn’t mean pain is “all in your head”. Rather, it honors the mind-body connection and creates space for emotional healing.

04

Nervous System Regulation

Using mindfulness, visualization, and body-based tools, we work together to calm your nervous system and restore a sense of internal safety. When your system feels less threatened, it stops sounding the alarm, and that’s when pain can finally quiet down.

Is PRT Right for You?

You might be curious about whether your pain is related to stress or trauma, looking for natural chronic pain management tools, or wondering how to relieve pain without medicine. If you’re tired of chasing new diagnoses or feeling dismissed by doctors, PRT might offer a different kind of hope. It’s not a quick fix, and it doesn’t work for every kind of pain. But for many people, especially those with neuroplastic pain, it is life-changing.

PRT may be a good fit if:

  • You’ve had chronic pain for months or years

  • Medical providers have ruled out serious structural causes

  • Your pain seems to flare with stress or emotional triggers

  • You’re open to a mind-body approach and curious about how emotions impact the body

We’ll always begin with a conversation to assess whether this approach makes sense for your specific situation.

Conditions PRT May Help With

PRT is designed for chronic pain that is not caused by an active disease or injury, including:

  • Back pain

  • Neck pain

  • Tension headaches or migraines

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

  • Pelvic pain

  • TMJ or jaw pain

  • Nerve pain (such as sciatica)

  • Pain that moves or varies in intensity

  • Pain that worsens with stress or improves with distraction

It’s especially helpful for those who have had extensive medical workups with little explanation for their symptoms.
